Self Waxing

You know, you can be an educated person and be a complete idiot. I realize most of you probably know that, but for those who may not have known, I am living proof of this.

Like many women out there, I prefer hairlessness. It is not really a sexual thing for me... more of a germophobic, a-bald-snatch-seems-cleaner kind of a thing. The fact that Red prefers me this way is just a happy bonus.

But shaving my lady parts can be difficult. I've cut myself before, and that's not a pretty sight. Plus there is the stubble and the itchiness. I always thought I'd like to try Brazilian waxing, but I had never tried it for several reasons, mainly 1) can't find a place that does it, 2) I fear it would be too expensive for too short a period of hairlessness, and 3) I'm just too darn embarrassed to pay a complete stranger to do something like that.

So imagine my happy surprise when I found that SurgiWax makes a Brazilian waxing kit that you can do yourself in the privacy of your own home. And it was affordable! So I bought the kit and took it home and eagerly tried it out.

Oh.

My.

God.

The government should use this stuff in place of waterboarding. If I had any state secrets, I'd have been screaming them to the four corners of the world.

I've heard great things about Brazilian waxing. But this is definitely something that you should not do yourself. First of all, it is immensely painful, and convincing yourself to rip off a clump of wax (which is what you wind up with - clumps of wax, not nice neat strips) is difficult to do. Taking three ibuprophen in advance did nothing to make it any easier on me. It is difficult to see what you're doing, the wax winds up getting everywhere, and after all of the effort, you still don't manage to get all the hair. You get most of it, sure. But not all.

But, you say, you're not an idiot. Anyone would have thought this was a good idea and tried it. And you're right about that.

But would an idiot have done it three more times after that?

I have got to find a better way.

:) Rose this sounds almost like a kinky version of I love Lucy! The predicaments we brilliant women can get ourselves into!

What a coincidence! I tried waxing for the first time a few weeks ago. I agree with you, I really wouldn't want a total stranger doing things like that to me.

The wax I bought was in little strips, and while I was prepared for pain, it didn't hurt very much. I suppose it's because I'm a masochist :-) It didn't do a very efficient job, though.

My sister told me I should really try this self-waxing a few months ago, so I did right before we went to Hawaii. I did love not having to shave much while we were there, but like you said, PAIN! And I forgot halfway through to keep using the stuff that keeps the wax from sticking to the skin...Wow, more pain. The pain didn't last long though, so that was good. But I haven't done it since, so I guess the benefits weren't enough for me to endure the pain...especially when you have to inflict it on yourself.

Perhaps if you would ask your partner to do it for you?

I know that when I try to shave myself, I don't do a great job and I cut. When I ask my partner to do it, he does a superb job.

I'm with you, I hate shaving and I prefer hairlessness....so I finally thought I'd swallow my pride and look into the cost of waxing. I found a few salons that did it AND had a webpage....and the "starting at" (meaning if you're fat/hairy/Idunno it costs more) prices were obscene! Let's assume we do this once a month...$60+ a month?? Not right now anyways.
Sad.

Nair/Veet just burns, especially in the creases at my legs. Shaving is alot of hassle for itchiness and regrowth in 24 hours or less.

I've done this. More than once. Not fun.

I've actually asked Adam for help with this and he has agreed, but I've never been able to bring myself to actually tell him, "It's time. Come help me."

I suffer alone.

I've been going to a local day spa for a radical bikini wax for a few months now. Almost everything was gone-- just a little "detailing" was left around the tenderist parts.

This week I got up the nerve to try the Brazillian at the day spa. As you said, OMG!!!!! After the first side was done, I thought, Geeeeze, she's still got to do the other side. I like the fact that there is no itching after waxing, and I also like the fact that it takes longer to grow out. The spa worker said the more you wax the less hair grows. Regardless, I think I'm going back to the radical bikini wax after this time!

Yes, waxing can be used instead of waterboarding.

NAIR!! nair nair nair. Baby smoothness from tip to tip. *blush* They make a mild version now for ladies ".

I've been using the full strength version for years and it doesn't irritate me, but I suppose it might if you are sensitive.
